here is some concept art for a fictional video game i made up about vikings. the two environments pictured are scenes from 2 of the 9 realms in norse mythology. the fiery death lava place is called 'hel'(appropriately), and the cold mountainous giant pillar place is called 'niflheim'(a mouthful). anyways, i was focusing a lot on mood and scale in these pieces so hopefully they both are distinct in those areas.

trying my hand at design. i should point out that the design was based on something warren linn (www.warrenlinn.com) had done. he commissioned me to digitize it for him. i took some liberties with the layout, type, and color however.

Oils around 20x32

Thursday, April 10, 2008

These are a few drawings out of my sketchbook. I started a new one recently because my other one was lost on the way to New York. It now resides under the seat of a China Town Bus and will remain there for all eternity.

This was done for my illustration class. We made an exiquiste corpse of words and drew the result. My sentence turned out to be: "Dionysus found the treasure in a paper sailboat."

Here are some environments I've done in my spare time (rare these days). A lot of experimenting goes on with these just to find a method of working that best suits me.

Done for Illustration Club. There is an accompanying haiku:

Pixel and Cathode
R G B C M Y K
Electric Alive

Any thoughts about the color?

This was a copy of a John Singer Sargent painting called "The Sulphur Match". We had to replace one of the characters with a self portrait emphasizing our contemporary setting. Very fun to do. Learned a lot. Oils.

A troll with his game. Watercolor.

Here is a piece done for Illustration I. The assignment was to create an album cover for one of our favorite bands. Pretty self explanatory.

Fresh Start

Well, I finally found the motivation to start a blog. I've visited blogs of my friends many-a-time in a late night internet desperation and decided to help the cause. If all goes according to plan, I can use this as a medium to post my work for school as well as some personal stuff. I've been hesitant about making a website because the work I'm doing in school right now is all over the place and doesn't seem like good "website" material. As an illustration major, I am able to take classes in a bunch of different areas. I'm taking an illustration class, a more traditional painting class, as well as a class about visual journalism, aptly named "Visual Journalism". The work that will be posted will be from these classes as well as some fun stuff. Hopefully I can stay on the ball about keeping the thing updated...
